January News!

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a great start to the New Year. Thank you so much for all your generous prayers, gifts, and donations to the Teacher Fund at Christmas! We are so excited to be back together again and have a great second semester! Classes will resume January 6th for T/Th preschool and M-F PM pre-k and January 7th for MWF pre-k. Report cards will be sent home the first week back, so please be on the lookout and sign/return just the empty envelope to school.

Starting this next week, we will begin sending home our class pet and student of the week binder. Please be on the lookout for that! Each child will get their own week to spend with our class pet (stuffed dog) and then get to share all their fun adventures with the class. All information and instructions on what to do are in the binder!

Dial 4 Assessments for Kindergarten will be held on February 23rd and the 24th. Please reach out if you have any questions.

We will have a Valentines day party in February, so please make sure to get your VIRTUS training done so you can join us!

We have been doing good so far on snacks but I know we will be running low soon. I will send an email once we get closer to running out for donations. Thanks!

How you can help at home:

  • I highly encourage working on both fine motor and gross motor skills at home. There are hundreds of ways they can work on these skills while playing. Pinterest and even TikTok are fast and easy places to find ideas!
  • When singing the alphabet, I encourage you to sing it to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb. We sing it this way because it helps the students slow down and ensures they are saying each letter. Especially letters L, M, N, O, P, that typically get skipped when singing it the traditional way.
  • Using the name zero when referring to number 0. Many of them are having trouble differentiating letter O and zero. I especially see this when we are working on birthdays, addresses and phone numbers.
  • When working on letter sounds, make sure you and your child are not adding the schwa (/uh/) sound at the end. For example, the sound for letter b is /b/ not /buh/ and the sound for letter t is /t/ not /tuh/. Here is a link to a quick video explaining what this means-schwa video
  • They are doing so well now recognizing their name without pictures!  We will begin writing our names with uppercase letter to start and the rest of the name with lowercase letters by the end of the semester!
